Castle Hills rentals and the neighborhoods around them

Castle Hills is an older, fully developed city on San Antonio's north-central side, about seven miles from downtown and close to the airport, Balcones Heights and Olmos Park. Few rentals sit inside the city, and the MLS files some nearby homes under San Antonio, so this page covers listings within about a mile. Even then, only about six rentals are listed at a time.

All six are single-family houses. The median asking rent is about $3,050 a month, with the middle half between about $2,520 and $3,800. Supply is thin but it does turn over; about a third of listings are new this week.

There are no apartments or condos in this short list, so renters here are choosing among houses. Four-bedroom-plus homes have a median of about $3,050. The typical rental was built in the early 1960s and has about 2,350 square feet on roughly a third of an acre, so expect a yard to care for and older systems that may have been updated in stages.

Ask who handles lawn care and tree trimming, how old the air conditioner and water heater are, and whether the house has had plumbing or electrical updates.

Districts and neighborhoods

North East ISD serves about four of the listings and Northside ISD one, so check the district for each address. Oak Glen Park has a couple of rentals, and Kallison Ranch shows one. Most listings are in ZIP 78213. If a specific district matters for your children, filter by it first and choose the house second.

Leasing pace and paperwork

The median rental has been listed about 40 days, and none have lowered the rent, so owners are getting their asking price. With so few homes, apply soon after you tour. Owners usually ask for photo ID, income proof, rental history and a deposit. If nothing fits, widen the search to Balcones Heights, Olmos Park and Shavano Park.
